Kurasa – Acacia Crest Mathematics Contest
Communication and Collaboration, Self-efficacy, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Creativity and Imagination, Citizenship, Digital Literacy, and Learning to Learn are the core competencies of CBC that were at play. July 13, 2024, began like any other day, but for participating schools and the host school, it was a day when learners would be speaking, thinking, and walking mathematically. With 30 schools, over 400 learners, and over 100 teachers, the stage was set.
We received a warm welcome from the Acacia Crest Fraternity, led by the Director, Mrs. Maina, and the Headteacher, Mr. Gideon. The classrooms were prepared, and the learners were assigned to their respective classes. As the students engaged in answering the challenging questions, their teachers were busy creating a marking scheme for the same. The marking process began as soon as they finished, and in no time, the data entry team from Kurasa had entered and analyzed the results.
Our chief guest, Ms. Nancy Nui from CEMASTEA, arrived on time for the plenary session. Mr. Muriuki, our MC, led the plenary session, where speeches with mathematical encouragement took center stage. The CEO of Kurasa, Mr. William Nguru, was quick to share how a similar event changed his life. Mrs. Maina, together with the chief guest, emphasized the importance of mathematics in our daily lives, encouraging the girls to rise to the occasion and develop a love for mathematics.
The top school award went to White Star Springs Academy, followed closely by Mountainview and Acacia Crest Academy and Junior School took the third position. The top candidate hailed from Mountainview Academy.
Trophies were awarded to the top three schools and the top three pupils. Certificates and gift hampers were also given to all participants. The teachers were not left unrewarded.
To all schools that participated, thank you very much. We look forward to seeing you in the next contest.
