CBC lesson planning: the week has to exist before first period

A CBC lesson plan is not a form you fill for an inspector and never open again. It is the week, written so a substitute could almost teach it. Objectives that can be checked. Something for the learner who is ahead and the one who is not. A formative moment before the period ends.

Practical teaching guide, updated September 2026. Use the examples to discuss lesson preparation, classroom observations and follow-up with your teaching team.

The craft, shortened

Write the competency you mean. Design for engagement that is not a party trick. Differentiate without running three classrooms. Cross-curricular only when it is true. Inquiry when the question is real. Local examples. Assess while you teach. Let learners work together when the task needs more than one head. Use a device if it carries the scheme — not as decoration.

The study next door

For further reading, explore the 60 Decibels lesson-planning findings and Stanley Kago’s account of preparation in the 2023 documentary. Pair those accounts with your own lesson plan and a record of what learners tried.

The product

Kurasa does not replace official schemes. It is a page for this class, this week. Open Workspace before first period. The inspectorate file, if one exists, should be able to read the same week.

A scheme open at 7:10am. Stanley Kago’s sentence still holds: the game is won in the planning.

Before first period

If it cannot be taught on Monday, it is not a plan.

Workspace for the page. The 60dB finding for the study. Kago for the sentence.
