Who can use this feature
Open the correct school workspace and its class attendance register. Marking requires the class-teacher assignment and attendance access; a staff role alone does not assign a class.
Before you start
Confirm the school, academic year and date before recording anything. Check that the learner belongs to the selected class for that year.
Agree how your school records a full day and a half day before marking. Use the existing three register options.
Required and optional fields
| Field | Requirement | Format or example | Prerequisite |
|---|---|---|---|
| Attendance date | Required in this form | Choose today or an earlier permitted date. Future dates are unavailable; the school can restrict changes to past days. | School date policy |
| One mark per learner | Required in this form | Check every preselected Full Day mark against what you observed. Use Half Day or Absent where appropriate. | Active class learners |
| Comment / reason / note | Optional | Optional in the form. Record the relevant observation or agreed next step; do not invent a reason. | Verified information |
Picklist prerequisites
| Choice | Options come from | Earlier selection | If missing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Class / cohort | Class-teacher assignment | The class list comes from your class-teacher assignments in this workspace. Ask an administrator to check the assignment and academic year if it is empty. | Learner rows load after choosing a class. Add or link the active learners to that class first; changing a role label does not populate the register. |
The register supports Full Day (1), Half Day (2) and Absent (3). P, H and A appear in history. A dot or blank means not marked; it is not an absence.
Desktop walkthrough
Check the class, date and each learner’s mark.
Screen walkthrough · 0:45Download GIF ↓- Confirm the learner and date before changing the mark. Full Day records attendance for the whole day; Half Day records part of the day.
- Choose Absent only when absence is established. A missing mark describes an incomplete record, not the learner’s whereabouts.
- Add relevant context in Comments. The Late tab does not currently provide a separate register code; do not silently treat every late arrival as Half Day.
- Submit the register and check the saved state. An Excused absence reason is a separate follow-up record and does not turn Absent into Present.
Mobile walkthrough
Check the class, date and each learner’s mark.
Screen walkthrough · 0:45Download GIF ↓On a phone, close the navigation drawer. Learners appear as individual cards with Full, Half and Absent options. Work down every card, type any comment, then scroll to Submit. Reopen the same class and date to verify.
Save and verify
In history, check P / H / A against the saved day. In the mark form, check the selected radio option rather than relying on colour alone.
Troubleshooting
Need a separate late-arrival mark?
Follow the school’s agreed recording process and keep factual context in a comment. Editing the codes text in Rules does not add a new register option.
If saving fails, keep your notes, check the connection and read the error. Reopen the same class and date to check what was saved before submitting again.
