Frontier counties: the network drops, and that is the product test
A frontier county is not a metaphor. Dry miles into Mwingi. A border school in Lamu. A valley beyond Eldoret. EdTech that only works in Nairobi is a tent. The July 2024 note listed strategies. The ones that survive are the ones that assume the line will drop.
Practical teaching guide, updated September 2026. Use the examples to discuss lesson preparation, classroom observations and follow-up with your teaching team.
This July 2024 resource discusses inclusion through classroom access, teaching materials and the support available to teachers.
What still has to be true
A device and a connection the school actually has — including solar and offline habits, not a data-centre fantasy. Teachers practised on the tool they will open on Tuesday. Content that can use a local example. A mentor who has taught in a similar room, not only a cascade from town. Community that knows the login is for the week, not a launch.
Field notes, not a ratio
Visits to Katangini, Kiunga and Bidii show the practical conditions of classroom use, including connectivity interruptions and staff support. Discuss these conditions when planning how teachers will prepare lessons, record observations and follow up.
The product test
If Workspace cannot take a register and close formative evidence on a weak line, it is not Kurasa. Academy still has to fit in the hours the school has. Contact if your county sitting should be written with names — after written permission.

Far schools
If it only works in Nairobi, it is not Kurasa.
The field notes are the geography. Workspace is the weekday. ICT skills is the device in the lesson.
