Teachers stay for pay, posting and a week that can be finished — not a resilience poster
Teacher retention is shaped by pay, posting, housing, workload and support from colleagues. Shared preparation, mentorship and professional learning can help staff manage the teaching week alongside these wider employment conditions.
Practical teaching guide, updated September 2026. Use the examples to discuss lesson preparation, classroom observations and follow-up with your teaching team.
What a school can actually hold
A mentor on the timetable. CPD that rehearses Tuesday, not a hotel certificate. A register and a plan that do not eat Sunday. A head who can see the load. Those are retention habits a staffroom controls. TSC posting and pay are a different file.
Ledgers, kept apart
Review the teaching workload with colleagues and school leaders. Make time for mentoring, share preparation where useful and agree practical support for the routines that are difficult to sustain.
Honesty
Kurasa can give time back if the admin job shrinks. It cannot keep a teacher in a hardship posting. Do not write “building resilience” as if the product were the reason someone stayed.

The week that can be finished
Make time for preparation and professional learning.
The 60dB quality-of-life post is the study. Wellbeing is the habit. Admin time is the mechanism.
