Career readiness in CBC is a pathway conversation, not a transformation story

Career conversations can begin with the learner’s work across the year: what they enjoy, how they approach tasks and where they need practice. Use those observations to discuss pathways and the schools that offer the relevant subjects.

Practical teaching guide, updated September 2026. Use the examples to discuss lesson preparation, classroom observations and follow-up with your teaching team.

The order that still works

Start with the learner’s interests and classroom work. Discuss STEM, Social Sciences, and Arts and Sports Science, then review which schools offer the relevant tracks. Check current official placement guidance with the family.

Who has to be in the room

Bring the learner, their parent or guardian and a teacher into the conversation. Use examples from the year to discuss interests, practice and available subjects, giving the learner room to explain their choices.

Kurasa’s place

Use the record in Workspace to discuss lesson participation, assessment evidence and feedback with the family. Follow the Ministry’s official process for school selection and placement.

The conversation

Start from the year. Then name the door.
