Who can use this feature
Sign in to the correct school. Formative marking uses your teaching allocations; creating groups, importing marks and releasing reports require the appropriate school permissions. Your plan and enabled modules determine which menus appear.
Before you start
Prepare the class list, teacher allocations, curriculum and school calendar. Use the school’s configured rubric: Ghana CCP content standards and indicators, Kenya CBC/CBE strands and indicators, or the configured national or international programme. Check school settings before applying a grading scale.
Prepare the paper totals, marking guide and current curriculum grading settings.
Required and optional fields
| Field | Requirement | Format or example | Prerequisite |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper total, date taken and learner marks | Check before continuing | Confirm the paper’s total and date before entry. Each entered numeric mark must be from zero to the paper total. Empty marks remain missing. The description is optional. | School class lists and teacher allocations; configured curriculum, calendar and saved source records. |
| Year, term, class and assessment scope | Check before continuing | Choose the available year, period and class or group for the view. Compare the same scope, check missing marks and read the supporting records before interpreting a summary. | School class lists and teacher allocations; configured curriculum, calendar and saved source records. |
Picklist prerequisites
| Choice | Options come from | Earlier selection | If missing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Categories, classes and papers | Configured assessment categories, current-year classes and subjects allocated to each selected class. | Choose category and period, then classes. Create the group before opening its generated papers. | Have leadership check categories, year and subject allocations. A paper cannot be marked until it exists for that class. |
| Class and subject choices | Existing classes for the academic year and your permitted teaching or leadership scope. | Set up classes and allocations first; choose the class before a dependent subject. | Check active allocations and year. A disabled subject control may be waiting for a class. |

Locate the class paper and total
Screen walkthrough · 0:45Download GIF ↓- Open the group’s papers or mark list and select the intended level or class.
- Compare expected learners and entered marks. Open the source paper for missing or unexpected values.
- Check the paper total and the configured grading scale. Ghana CCP and Kenya CBC/CBE use their configured settings; confirm international programme settings with leadership.
- Correct permitted source entries against the marking record. Keep unmarked or absent cases visible rather than filling zeros for completeness.
- Reopen the same view and compare the updated counts. Escalate locked papers or scale issues before release.
Mobile walkthrough
Locate the class paper and total
Screen walkthrough · 0:45Download GIF ↓On a phone, close the navigation drawer and work through one learner or field at a time. Scroll down to the action buttons; wide tables may also scroll sideways. Use landscape for comparison, then recheck class, period and learner before saving.
Save and verify
Each unresolved entry has a source check or follow-up owner. Completion counts describe record keeping; they do not establish teaching quality.
Wait for a saved confirmation, then reopen the same record. A draft kept on this device is preparation; it is not a saved school record. When a connection fails, check whether the first request succeeded before trying again.
Troubleshooting
A grade or average looks unexpected
Check total score, rubric, category, missing marks and selected scope. Have leadership review settings instead of changing marks to obtain a desired band.
A list or menu is missing
Check workspace, role, enabled module, academic year and allocation. Choose the parent option before its dependent field. Ask the administrator to correct the setup; avoid duplicate classes or learners to populate a list.
